patient gets their blood sugar testedAsian Americans are at an elevated risk of type 2 diabetes, but current screening practices may not be catching it. In this study, CHAS Fellows Elbert Huang and Kao-Ping Chua discovered Asian Americans were the least likely racial and ethnic group to receive a recommended diabetes screening. Compared to non-Hispanic whites, Asian Americans were 34% less likely to receive the recommended screening. Interestingly, this disparity in diabetes screening persisted even among Asian Americans who received other types of preventive screenings.
